Fables are stories using fictitious characters to demonstrate moral or ethical behavior.
The ancient Greek, Aesop, is credited with popularizing over 600 fables. Fables actually originated long before the written word and were passed along from generation to generation by word of mouth.
You have probably enjoyed listening to these stories since you were a child and may not have realized they were fables. Nearly everyone has heard the story of the Tortoise and the Hare or the Grasshopper and the Ant.
These are simple childhood stories that convey a basic ethical or moral truth.
